Air Quality in your home
Experiencing asthma or allergies even while indoors? It might be your air quality! In the past 20 years, research conducted by the American Lung Association has shown that our indoor air quality has a significant impact on our health. In fact, the more time we spend indoors, the more our health is at risk!
Above + Beyond Service Company provide HVAC services in Edmond and the Oklahoma City metro area. We want our customers to understand the importance of their indoor air quality and how it can be improved.
It can be difficult for some to view indoor air pollution as a threat because we don’t always see pollutants. Many of the most common indoor air pollutants that escape the eye are dust mites (and their feces!) gas-combustion by-products, bacteria, and mold. The full list contains many other disturbing particles!
There are 3 categories of pollutants that live in your home: Particulates, Microbial, and Gases. The pollutants can get caught in your nose, throat, and lungs and contribute to health problems that are making underlying health issues worse.
Pollutants can also be circulated through your heating and cooling system. This is why Above + Beyond Service Company encourage our customers to invest in regular maintenance for their HVAC unit and to consider purchasing our Indoor Air Package.

How can your HVAC improve your air quality?
One way to reduce toxic indoor air pollution in your home is to make sure your heating and cooling system is regularly maintained and working as efficiently as possible.
When regular upkeep goes out the window and filters or ducts become clogged with debris, it generates a build-up of bacteria and other harmful toxins which will then be spread through your vents!
There are few key areas you want to keep an eye on that if undetected for long periods, could contribute to your poor indoor air quality:
- Filters
- Air ducts
- Leaks
- Vents
Proper inspection of the above can ensure your HVAC parts are cleaned, changed, and checked regularly so any concerns can be brought to your attention and dealt with early on.
Above + Beyond Service Company’s licensed technicians provide exceptional customer service when it comes to maintenance care. We know that quality air is important and by knowing what signs to look out for when it comes to indoor air pollution, we are confident that we can improve your indoor air quality.

Indoor Air Quality FAQ
Several factors come into play when determining which system you should choose, from a basic furnace or air conditioner combination units to heating and cooling systems.
To help you decide, here are some of the most important factors to consider:
- The size of your home
- How well your home is insulated
- Your climate
- What type of fuel do you use to heat your home
If your heater or air conditioner is more than eight years old, it’s likely time for a new one. You can also tell if you need a new unit by checking your energy bills; if they seem higher than average, that could be a sign that your system is no longer working efficiently.
Finally, if you notice any strange noises or smells coming from your unit, it’s time for a replacement. It’s always best to plan and replace your system when it’s still in good condition.
If your home has more than one room, then the air conditioner or heater may not have reached total capacity yet, which could cause un-evenly temperatures throughout the house. Another reason for this issue may be that your home is not adequately insulated. You can call a professional to help you identify the source of the problem and fix it.
If you are trying to conserve energy, make sure all your doors and windows are closed tightly. If there are any leaks in your home, then the conditioned air will escape, and this will cause the temperature to be uneven.
You should also ensure that your air conditioner or heater is correctly sized for your home. If it is too small, it will not be able to cool or heat your entire house evenly.
If you’re adding an extra bedroom or bathroom to your home, installing a new unit for that area is best. You could use the ductwork from your old central system and add another package (indoor) unit near the new addition.
To determine what size you need, consider the climate where you live, the size of your home, and how many windows it has. If you’re not sure, a professional can help. You also want to make sure that the air conditioner is sized correctly for your furnace.
